So I am sick and tired of changing Parker's dirty diapers. I know several other kids that are his age and they are already potty trained. How do I get him interested in going on the toilet. I have tried and tried and he just thinks it is something funny to do to sit on the potty. The other day I really had enough when he took off his dirty diaper and then proceeded to sit on the floor. Needless to say I had to clean (rather Matt had to clean) the carpet and the chair in the living room. It was disgusting!!! So I bought him a package of pull-ups and tried one on him. Then about a half hour later tried to get him to go to the bathroom and sit on the potty. He took his pants and pull-up off and sat on the toilet with nothing happening. Then he got off and would not put the dry pull-up back on. He called it a diaper and he knows when you take a diaper off you throw it away. So I asked him if he wanted to wear a diaper and he said "Yes" so I guess he isn't ready and I shouldn't waste my money on the dumb pull-ups but how do I get him interested???? I am so far past being done with changing his diaper, it is what I dread doing every day!!! Any advice out there????

with macee we did a sticker chart and everytime she went she got a sticker that she chose. we also did the thing were we just put underwear on her and she had to feel herself get wet. but really the only thing that worked was when she was good and ready I would ask her everyday if she wanted to wear a baby diaper or big girl panties and one day she asked for big girl panties and we were good.
with Logan I bribed him with candy. I took him to the store and let him pick out his own treats and then I taped them to the wall in the bathroom where he could see them. He picked out gummy worms for his pee treat and a bag of mini kit kats for his poop treat. This was the easy part though. I bought training pants from walmart. These catch more stuff but they are cotton like real underwear. Then I let him pick out some underwear. He chose cars. So then for the next 2 days I made this big deal about how you can't get lightening mcqueen wet or dirty cause then I would have to take them away to wash them. I let him wear them over his diaper for those days. Here comes the hard part.....
I put the training pants on him and I let him have accidents. only 1 or 2 but it was still hard. He would look down and start to freak out cause he could feel that he was wet. Then I set the timer on the stove for 20 min intervals and I would take him potty when it went off. When he went pee or poo in the potty I jumped up and down and screamed and told him how happy I was. Then I gave him a treat. After about 3 days of lots of accidents and a very frustrated mom he started to get the hang of it. After 2 weeks he was able to do everything on his own. I slowly got rid of the treats and just gave him verbal praise but it worked. I have heard that you shouldn't leave the house at all during potty training but that is impossible. So I would still go out but that is when I would put a pull up on him. I didn't let him wear them any other times other than when we went out. I did this cause I couldn't handle cleaning up the accidents at a public place and because they do feel like diapers and I didn't want to confuse him. When I would take him out I just made sure that we went before we left, once we got to the store, and then before we left the store. It has lessened since he has gotten older. He can now hold it for 2-3 hours instead of 20-30 minutes.
Might I suggest not moving or anything like that after you train him. Logan totally regressed and I have a had to retrain him again!!
Sorry this is so long! I hope it helps!
