We went camping this last weekend with some friends of ours, the Maugers, and had a GREAT time. It did rain on us most of one day, but we managed to make the most of it and still had a fun time hanging out and letting the kids play together. The first day we got there, after we had set up camp, Matt started a fire for the evening. Parker is fascinated with fire and we have to keep an eye on him because he likes it so much. Well we must not have had both our eyes on him because before we knew it he came to Matt and said "Daddy I got hurt" he hadn't been crying or anything so we didn't know something was wrong. But when Matt looked at him he had a burn on his face and lip from putting a hot dog roasting stick to his lip. I guess he was going to lick it or something. But didn't quite make the connection that after it had been in the fire it was really really hot. He went and hid after it happened thinking we would be mad at him, but it must have been hurting so he decided to tell us what happened. After I looked at him I explained how it had gotten hot and that you can't touch things after they have been in the fire. I told him he learned a good lesson and not to do it again. He was pretty upset about it by then and wanted to go home. But calmed down after some ice on his lip and his best buddy got there just as we were finishing up the little talk. He forgot about the burn the rest of the weekend and had a fun time. Luckily I had some antibacterial medicine in a first aid kit and we put the on it frequently. Today it looks a lot better and has scabbed over. If it leaves a scar, he will always have a reminder and a story to tell of how he got that scar. Hopefully he remembers how if felt and won't ever try that again. Luckily that was the worst thing that happened over the weekend and we had a good time ending the summer with one last camping trip!
